the machines that hold us (ii) (2022)

in collaboration with joyce to and performed at the music gallery (toronto)

the machines that hold us (ii) is the second part of a project that we began at a residency at critical mass centre for contemporary art in Port Hope, ON.

the piece imagines the speculative future of artificial intelligence and computation, particularly the question of flesh in a world where intelligence is somehow divorced from matter. do we lose anything along the way?

the piece’s text is completely derived from gpt-2 generation models trained on transhumanist subreddits and rhizomatic feminist theory, and we take up the narrative of a speculative procedure that rips the mind from its own flesh.
