leonore (2023)
in collaboration with Julie Zhu
performed with SPECTRA Ensemble and with support from LOD muziektheater
The famous conductor Bruno Walter gave his US debut at Carnegie Hall on February 15th, 1923. He sees a young boy in the third row. The young boy’s eyes meets that of Bruno Walter’s; Bruno Walter’s meets the young boy’s. An encounter of six seconds.
leonore is a lecture performance with music that pinpoints a speculative encounter between a famous conductor and a young immigrant without biography. it is about conducting, photography, remembering, and remixing performative artifacts as simple as walking onto a stage for the first time on February 15th, 1923.
